Update

It has been quiet a while on this blog. But let me confirm you that my life has been all but quiet, so please let me give you an update on my activities.
Thesis

My Master thesis work on Outside-Inside learning was finished on the 27th of October, when i handed in the thesis with the Exam Administration of the RSM Erasmus University. What was projected to be a 9 month project was completed in 10 months. Considering Microsofts’ two year delay on the new operating system Vista, and the serious delays in the Airbus 380 project I’d say: I delivered my thesis quite on time.

On the 14th of December I have defended my thesis at the university, and was questioned by a 4-man committee: dr. O. Koppius (chairman and coach), Prof. dr. H.W. Volberda (1st co-reader), dr. P. Perego (2nd co-reader) and dr. P. Iske (company coach). I managed to convince the gentlemen of the quality of my thesis and was awarded a 7.5. (0-10 scale). Family & friends proud: Mission completed.

Reuters

On the 16th of October I joined Reuters, the global information company, serving professionals in financial services, media and corporate markets. I joined the Business Graduate Program. This is a high potential recruitment program, which recruits international high calibre business graduates who demonstrate leadership potential. The program consists of an induction program, several international assignments, a business project, a professional financial markets certification and a graduate development workshop. After a 2-week training in Amsterdam and a 5 weeks training in Geneva I moved to London. My first assignment is on the customer support desk in London, trying to get a grasp of the vast area of financial markets while supporting clients in their use of the Reuters data and applications.

Current plans and interests

In the coming months my first priority is my job. I’m studying for a couple of Reuters certifications on products and markets. In May i will broaden my knowledge of the Fixed Income market by taking the ICMA (International Capital Market Association) exam on fixed income and derivatives. In June I’ll move back for a 3-week business project to Geneva and July I’ll start my second assignment (client-facing role) somewhere on the globe.
Above activities absorb pretty much most of my current available time. However, I want to continue with the knowledge gained while working on my thesis. I would like to set up projects and activities related to Innovation, Knowledge management, Web 2.0 and digital worlds.
